Not going to get much argument from me on those points, except maybe the
TT, about which I am rather more enthusiastic: very tight, rich sound,
and a great variety of styles while never being 'grab-bag.' Maybe it's
the result of low expectations; certainly my high hopes for Herbert Big
Band had some role to play in my vague sense of disappointment. On the
other hand, I rmember passing over Bodily Functions on the first few
listens, only to return to it a month later and completely fall for it.
Maybe they need to be caught live? People who've seen their sets have
been raving...
On other matters, caught Afro-Mystik live on a boat party last night and
came away impressed as always. Singer Omega and knob-twister Chris
Smith could've shown a bit of enthusiasm, but Simone White, Drumfire,
and Carlos Ariza were the genuine item with incredibly-tight percussion.
peace,
