    This is a special alert.
Please pass this message along to as many artists as you can.
Soul-Patrol doesn't usually make reccomendations in this arena (with just a few exceptions)
I don't usually do this type of thing but in this case I am left with little choice.

If you are an independent artist (as most of you are these days) please beware of the online
    distributor called CD Street.
I have gotten a number of email messages over the past few days indicating that they haven't
been paying out artists for CD's that have been sold.

The number one place where your CD should be for sale online is on...
    YOUR OWN WEBSITE
    (That YOU OWN and CONTROL)

This is the ONLY way to assure proper accountability of sales and revenue.

The number two place is if you are on an indie label and using their site.

Everyplace else is up for grabs (for various reasons) and artists here on Soul-Patrol have had
    a mixed set of experiences.

If any artist wants to discuss this matter or wants advice on where to place your CD for sale
online, I will be glad to discuss it with you privately...

    The following letter is typical.
My reccomendation is that if you are an artist who has your CD listed on CD Street, PULL IT
    ASAP.
    ----------------------------------------

    > Make of this what you will.
    > CD Street, an online distributor of Indie music is no longer paying,
    > let
    > alone responding to the artists they sell.
    > Apparently, they're out of money and may have lost their financial
    > backing.
    > While ordering from them might help to get them back on their feet,
    > they're
    > still not answering emails, phone calls or faxes from the artists they
    > owe.
    > Perhaps if they were up front about their plight and not trying to
    > hide or
    > dismiss it, the Indie community could rally with ways to help, but
    > sadly
    > they are not even trying to explain their situation to the very people
    > who
    > give them an opportunity to have a business in the first place.
    > So if you shop with them, know that the very artist, you're trying to
    > support will probably never see a dime of the money and that CD Street
    > will
    > make absolutely no effort to let the artist know why.
    > Feel free to let them know their policy and conduct is a disgrace
    > while they
    > try to still make themselves attractive to Indie artists as a place to
    > sell
    > their music.
    > Thank you
