STYLIN - Rare grooves, hi-tech jazz and other worldly fusions
Friday afternoons 12-2pm RRR 102.7FM, Melbourne
Live online - http://www.rrr.org.au/index2.html (see below for times)

    Hello all

For those of you who missed last week's show, you missed a recent find from
my Dad's garage: a snippet of a tape from my first appearance on RRR from
way back in 1989. There I was with my squeaky voice playing tunes from
D-Mob, Model 500, Ice T, Derrick May, Trouble Funk and Jazzy Jeff & the
Fresh Prince, all to the rather bemused reaction of the show's host who
seemed to be more of an indie rock chick. Needless to say I've been a Jazzy
Jeff fan for quite some time. I even managed to find my copy of their first
"Girls Ain't Nothing But Trouble" 12" on local Philly label Word before they
signed to Jive. I'm saving this one for Ebay when Will Smith becomes US
President (it seems that this feat is beyond Arnie because he wasn't born in
the USA). Anyway, Jazzy Jeff has featured more recently in my musical
interests, having been involved in my favourite album of 2000, Jill Scott's
"Words and Sounds Vol 1" and last year's "The Magnificent" album for BBE
which also featured in my best of the year with the killer cut "A Charmed
Life" featuring J-Live. Well in the end I didn't get to chat with Jeff about
any of these things as he only made it into the studio with about 20 minutes
of Stylin to go. Those 20 minutes were straight down to business with a
nimble-fingered party-rockin mix of classics, each staying on the turntable
for no more than 30 seconds before it was time for the next. So you'll have
to check my links for all the background info.

    dropping by.
