STYLIN - Rare grooves, hi-tech jazz and other worldly fusions
Friday afternoons 12-2pm RRR 102.7FM, Melbourne
Live online - http://www.rrr.org.au/index2.html (see below for times)
Hello all
If you tuned in to RRR at midday today, you probably soon worked out that
there was no Stylin. I'll be back next week, but for this weekend RRR is
presenting "I Lost My Heart to RRR" featuring lots of classic RRR shows and
announcers. Tune in tonight from 11pm to 1am for "Wheels of Steel", one of
the first RRR shows I got into in the 80s.
Speaking of the 80s, I was trying to find the 1984 Swedish breakdancing
champion to have on Stylin. Unfortunately all I could find was the 1985
champ, Mad Mats. The fact that he's an incredible DJ and record-collector
and runs some of the hottest labels in the world right now didn't hurt
either. Many Stylin listeners will know Mats' diverse and consistent label
Raw Fusion, which has introduced great artists like Povo, Beatfanatic and A
Bossa Electrica. Swedes and lucky visitors may also know the clubnight Raw
Fusion from which the label got its name, a night known for playing the best
in soulful grooves to an open-minded and eager crowd. Completists and
trainspotters may also know Mats' earlier compilations like "Behind
Kungstradgarden" and "A Fusion Soul Classics Collection" and his early hip
hop productions like Boogaloo. Now Melbourne punters will get the chance to
hear him scratch and mix his way through everything and anything from hip
hop, soul, latin, drum & bass, techno, house, broken beat, r&b and jazz.
Tonight at Revolver. Mats is here right now as I'm typing this and says "Hi,
the new Mark Ronson featuring Q-Tip is Hot!"

Tune in next week for a funky mix Tom Strauch from German label
Switchstance.
until then
