That is very true as it is also a technique which goes back I guess to the
mid-eighties (or before?) when record companies started to release 12'' with
a capellas.
R&B and Hip Hop DJs have been doing the a capella thing for a good while --
remember I'm from the same city as DJ Jazzy Jeff (founder of the transformer
scratch) and Cash Money (two-time DMC World Mixing champion).
When I listend to those guys on college and pirate radio in the 80's, I used
to tape their techniques and then practice them. There is some stuff I still
can't do that they used to do with their eyes closed.
Creative a capella mixing is one of the main reasons why so many 'mainstream
R&B' singers are crooning to recent Hip Hop beats lately...DJ's should get
royalties for giving some of these lazy producers our ideas.
