Went to see Orbital in Glasgow last night who were supported by u-zik.
I haven't heard any of the supports stuff before but the first track
he played was an incredible funk/hip-hop/trip-hop track quite
different to the rest of his mainly jungle set. Does anyone have any
idea what this might be (not much to go on I know) or have any
recommendations of anything he has done.

In my limited knowledge on u-zik (u-zig?) he has a track on the Future Sound
of Jazz comp Vol. II on Compost records. It's called "Hector's House" --
it's a great track with a beautiful sweeping melody composed of string parts
and your classic warm synth pads and notes -- all layered over a ruff, over
driven/distorted drum loop -- a perfect marriage of the ruff & smoov.
As long as I'm speaking of the Future Sound of Jazz comp Vol. II, does
anyone know whether Richard James has done more stuff under the alias "Gentle
People" than what's featured on the compilation. Having known his earlier
stuff done as Aphex Twin or Polygon Window (which is harder edged "techno"),
the feel of his Gentle People track "Journey" is a really brilliant new
direction he's taken. I haven't heard his latest Aphex Twin releases so I
can't say whether this change in musical direction holds true for all Richard
James' new stuff. In short, I'm looking for more of his work in the Gentle
People vein... anyone know what's up??
