Those shelving units work wonders.

Since you're already at the hardware store, they
usually have a place where they will custom cut pieces
of wood for you. So what you might want to do is get
some of the cheap cardboard like wood (you know the
one that has the small holes evenly spaced throughout
it that are s'posed to be for hanging your tools of it
or whatever) and have them cut pieces that are big
enough to be placed in the side (I think 13" x 13"
does it) also if you want to have some sort of
indexing have them cut up N 12" x 13" pieces, you can
then have that extra inch sticking out in the front
with plenty of room for labelling.
