DVD Audio

IF it ever replaces CD.. Really, the only advantage of DVD audio is the
higher sampling rate (96khz as opposed to 44.1 for CD), but that's really
only of any significnace to audiophiles. Your average consumer really won't
be able to tell the difference, or care to. (unless the marketing companies
put their spin on things and start advertising audio DVD's as "ultra high
quality" or something).

The only other advantage would be to store more songs at 44.1 khz, but I
don't think artists are going to suddenly start making 40 track CD's.. And
for compilations, they already skimp on it as it is.. You can fit 74 minutes
on a standard audio CD.. What's with compilations coming out with only 50
minutes of music? I don't have a problem if an artist comes out with a 40
minute album, because I'd rather have 40 minutes of good music than an
additional 34 minutes of garbage filler tracks. But with a compilation, it's
not like they have to go and actually make the tracks themselves. All
they've gotta do is get them from the master tapes. It's just wrong coming
out with a compilation less than 74 minutes in my opinion..

Although, for personal use, I've been considering buying a DVD+RW unit to
record tracks from vinyl at 96khz.. Or for just making extra long
compilations for personal use. Anyone else into this?
