this point might be ancillary, but it is also worth noting, in my opinion,
that we owe a lot of the quality of modern music to funding put forth by
record labels. could we imagine 4hero having such a high quality sound
without someone else footing the bill? no matter how you cut it, artists
simply don't have what it takes to get those things done independently. the
innovation and artistic process would still be there, but we'd have to deal
with muddier sound quality and second-rate recordings.
i won't lie...i have mp3s of my own...sure....but i try to keep them limited
to things that are either out of print or unavailable to me by some other
factor -- i haven't made a practice out of burning entire cds scot
free...and i still spend almost all of my cash on music. there's no doubt
in my mind that i'm doing more than my fair share to buoy the music
industry. no one owes me anything for that, but we should all do our part
in some way or another..
