Yesterday I was listening to the Lord Finesse Blue Note Session (called
Diggin' on Blue), and it was quite a let down. The Lord himself did some
"looping" with his double copies (so smooth it was hard to spot at the first
listening), but I was expecting much more cut ups and dj tricks. All in all
it was a nice selection of some 50 Blue Note tracks (many of 'em already
sampled by acts like Brand Nubianz, Tribe Called Quest,....) in an hour,
    but...

In my opinion Blue Note sucks ass great time. Instead of releasing it in
Japan only (causing you a minor financial trouble when buying imports), they
should give this CD away for free (in each and every record store that sells
Blue Note reissues) as a promotional mixtape. I mean, the idea with this
whole mix CD is to get hip hop heads hooked on rare originals and expensive
reissues with the help of hip hop's finest producers and djs (the D.I.T.C.
squad, Premier, Tony Touch, Evil Dee...)on the mic giving you shout outs
every two minutes. I mean it was no real emceeing, only "Big shot to Busta
Rhymes", "Rest in Peace Big L" and "Just like I said this mixtape was
sponsored by Blue Note - EMI" which definitely annoys most rare groove/jazz
heads and comes far from satisfying true hip hop heads, because they are all
saying nothing. If this thing is a tribute to their roots, it should be a
tribute with real dj and mc skills.

There is a third mix out by (if I remember right) Pete Rock. That one should
be interesting. I wish DJ Spinna made one...
