Try ProTools FREE for starters... it's a FREE(!) fully functioning eight
track version, part of their new "step up" strategy for getting us all
hooked. ProTools FREE steps up to the moderately expensive ProTools LE (the
unlimited tracks version of the software, with a cool 8ins/outs DIGI001
hardware interface) and from there to the full ProTools systems, that have
outboard processors to save your computer all of the hard work.
But download ProTools FREE and have a play to see if you like it (yes, it's
available for PCs!). It's not at all difficult to install, and relatively
easy to pick up if you've tried other multitrack software. I used to use
CoolEdit and found ProTools really easy to learn. Have been using it heaps
for prerecorded radio shows (fun for doing your own edits!) and plan to
start making music as soon as I get some more RAM into my machine.
Good luck!
