A friend of mine once said, "You put a 'C' in front of 'Hip' and 'Hop' and
it becomes 'Chip Chop.' You put a 'C' in front of 'Rap' and it becomes 'Crap.'
I know rap is an element of hip-hop, but I've been so turned off to rap per
se that I personally don't even refer to the word 'rap' in a hip-hop
context. I usually substitute rap (the verb) with 'rhyme,' 'flow' or 'MC'
(as in MC'in).
Most 'rap' is heard on the radio. Most hip-hop isn't.
Hip-Hop is ghetto. Rap is just plain low-brow.
