Whatupski to all the peeps... Yeah I've been silent for the last couple of weeks...I know that's been a disappointment for many of you :).  Seriously, I really didn't feel up to promoting the show following the attacks in NYC, DC, and PA.  My heart goes out to everyone who's been affected.  Quite frankly, I'm still trying to sort out my feelings and come to terms with what it all means.  At the risk of sounding preachy (wait! don't delete this just yet!) I believe it's vital that we create space for self-reflection in order to overcome the limitations of understanding ourselves and others.  Community, art, love...these things must be celebrated, or we lose meaning in what it means to be human.  Yeah, a bit overdramatic, but hey... Public Transit Recordings, right outta T-Dot, is one of those rare labels that operates on these elements.  Kicking out 'unpolluted beats since '98', the label has become renowned for sick-ass thumps that transverse all sorts of musical territories!
, while at the same time kicking serious social justice consciousness.  'Best Kept Secret' once again welcomes Moonstarr aka Mista Astro Travellin to bless the studio with a set leaning heavy on 'broken' riddims (an aesthetic that reaches in the past and pushes the future...we like vagueness).  Might we squeeze a live P.A. outta this young dynamo?  You'll have to tune in... Make sure you check the PTR 3rd Anniversary bashment going down this Friday September 28th at the Blue Moon (725 Queen St. East).  Nuff djs bringing you stylees ranging from dancehall reggae to house to deep techno to raregrooves to hip hop to d'n'b...plus live 'broken bossa' by Moonstarr.  Tickets are $8 ($6 with valid TTC transfer) and all proceeds go to Anishnawbe Health Center to fight homelessness in the city.  Come early: first 50 people get a free 'Blue Night Network' CD compilation (hype!).  Also check this Thursday's issue in NOW magazine for a feature on PTR. Oh yeah, I (Venus) will be holding i!
t down as well...sans DC once again.  The usual assortment of crispy beats and savoury basslines...always and forever! Big up to the Spot Records crew who I had the pleasure of spinning with last Friday night at Nasa...pure niceness. Big congrats to Directions on the release of their album 'Have You Felt This Way Before'...go pick it up! Also big congrats to the milk bwoys for 4 years of wikkid parties...Roxy was bumpin! 'Best Kept Secret'...hell no, we can't keep it under wraps forever... Live in Toronto CHRY 105.5 FM 6-8 PM every WednesdayOnline   http://www.yorku.ca/chry (follow them links) Peace and much respect   Venus - woman about town and co-conspirator behind 'Best Kept Secret'
