interestingly, the original modern notion of *freedom of speech* ---you
know, the one the French Revolution (and the American probably as well)
was originally fought about-- had nothing to do with protecting peoples
right to express their opinions, but to discuss and criticize matters of
public concern. More than a couple of centuries later, this idea has been
corrupted into the widespread myth that everyone has a right to hold their
own opinion whatsoever and, furthermore, than they have the right to be
heard expressing it.
