My receiver recently died and I'm in the market for a small sound system that is
flexible enough to use in my house, in a park, or in a cozy club. The system I
have my eye on is the Peavey Escort. It's one of those all-in-one systems with
2 speakers, an amp, stands, cords, the whole bit, and it all clips together into
a suitcase-like package with wheels. Looks perfect for my small car and tight
apartment. Unfortunately, I haven't found a local store that has one to listen
to the sound and poke around with the amp, and I definitely want to do that
before I put down the cash. Has anyone used this system? I'm generally very
pleased with Peavey speakers and the reviews are good, much better than the
similar Fender Passport system. I've ruled out getting a pair of JBL Eons b/c I
actually want an amp, not self-powered, and the bass on those things just
doesn't do it for me. The sound doesn't have to be absolutely audiophile
pristine, but "pretty darn good" would be nice. So that's my bias, and any
suggestions about this or other types of systems that you think might fit my
needs are welcome.
