Blogs, now everywhere this [2005-01-01]

In recent years we have seen different Internet technology become popular - web pages, email, p2p, and chats. In 2004 blogs entered the scene. Recently we had the Asian Tsunami disaster that was best covered by many blogs. The same goes for various elections around the world. There's a blog for every interest now. I'm not exactly sure what it all means, but this is a significant trend. I don't want to label it "the power of the fourth estate" but something surely is going on.

Merriam-Webster's word of the year was, you guessed it, blog (based on our online lookups). They say:

Blog noun [short for Weblog] (1999) :
a Web site that contains an online personal journal with reflections,
comments, and often hyperlinks provided by the writer.

ABC News have declared bloggers to be their People of the Year.
