allofmp3 shopping this [2006-07-12]

allofmp3 is a slightly different and unusual music site. The prices are about 1/10th of those at iTunes Music Store. They claim to be legal, according to the Law of the Russian Federation. Hard to tell, but I have no reason not to believe them.

I like that they carry so many old albums and not just music on the current charts. I bought some oldies (70s rock...) that I haven't heard since I was a kid - for about $1-2 per album! Incredible.

The steps in the purchase process are not exactly fine-tuned and mature like Amazon's... The download section is bizarre ("Do not left-click"), you must download each song in an album separately, and the payment is a bit unusual. You pay in advance to some third party company (Dutch?) and then you use that as store credit. I don't know if I'm being paranoid about it, but there are times when you don't exactly feel comfortable leaving you credit card number on a site.

Again, I have no real reason for complaining or mistrusting them. I'm just saying it was a very different online shopping experience. With regard to usability, not so great. Money-wise, excellent.
